Our core services

Enclosure Design PS1

We work with the project team through the design phase to sort out details, choose assemblies/suppliers, liaise with the consultants, and ultimately issue a full-enclosure compliance report and PS1  for consent.

Best for getting us involved early to make  recommendations and guide high-performance envelope.

Enclosure Design: Peer Review PS2

We review the drawings and reports at the end of the design phase, return markups to be updated, and then issue an enclosure PS2 for consent.

Best for when the design is already set but you need help with consent.

Construction Monitoring PS4

We review construction on site to ensure installation meets the consented details. We also answer questions and sort out any unexpected site conditions. Usually required when we issue a PS4, but we can also provide CM for other projects if necessary.

Full suite of services

Efficient and effective building enclosures are our passion. We specialise in anything and everything that separates the inside from the outside: windows, walls, roofs, waterproofing, insulation, and all the parts that connect them. Whatever you need for exterior assemblies and components, we can handle it, explain it, and make it easy.

Passive House design

Looking for certified and verified low-energy and high-comfort performance based on holistic design,  modelling and meticulously counting all of the energy gains and losses? We can help with Passive House design and detailing to create the highest performance efficiently and cost effectively.

Building science services

We use science to answer questions, guide design, and explain compliance with the building code. We can provide:

  • Component Design PS1
  • Modelling:
  • PHPP
  • Isothermal Modelling
  • Hygrothermal Modelling (WUFI)
Retrofits / Renovations / Investigations

Whether you’re retrofitting or repurposing an older building searching for leaks, or just doing routine maintenance, we can help you explore improvement options, stop leaks at their source, fix hot/cold stops, or help you get the highest value for money for any work on an existing building.

Engineering judgement

We provide both project-specific and general component design and code compliance. If you have a new or imported product, assembly or component for exterior enclosure, we can help with design and consenting.

High-end bespoke architectural houses

Unique and exceptional luxury home designs require innovative details and assemblies and alternative solution consenting. We can help with that while also ensuring durability and maximising comfort.

Warm Roof vs Cold Roof

New Zealand, home to some of the best things in the world – L&P, the Lord of the Rings, the All Blacks, Mānuka honey, Weetbix (largely protested by the Aussies) etc etc.

But unfortunately there is something that Kiwis’ do not win on the international scale, in fact NZ barely follows international best practice for one of the most significant assets most will ever own – their home. And more specifically the roof that shelters them within their home.

Precast Concrete

Many people in NZ believe that concrete is the most durable material for the outside of the building. While that may be true in terms of impact resistance and structural strength, there are a lot of other things to consider when using it as cladding rather than structure.

Healthy Home Guide

We already know what acceptable, healthy indoor conditions are. Decades of research has shown a defined range of indoor conditions reduce the risk of adverse health impacts.

This guide explains what a Healthy Home is, why Oculus are trying to achieve it, and what any New Zealander can do to their own house to improve their health.

Overheating

A deep dive into one of the most relevant topics for summer: Overheating.

We all know the sun in NZ & Australia is super hot, so we are talking about strategies to keep the heat out on sunny days and cooling the interior without needing heaps of air conditioning.
