Graduate Building Enclosure Engineer

Dan Allen

Dan is the engine room of Oculus. You’ll most often find him working on a new spreadsheet, calculator, or design tool to make our work more efficient. If you need some engineering analysis done, of anything, Dan knows how to do it, and way quicker than anyone else.

Dan graduated from the University of Bath and Oculus was lucky enough to snatch him up straight out of Uni. He has worked in structural firms in the UK, and completed a degree in structural engineering with a focus on façade and building enclosure design.

HNZC Heating Guide – NZ
– Collaborated on the development of a heating guide for New Zealand homes
– Conducted analysis of current building stock performance and worked to create a better more efficient structure. Our efforts let to proper housing and comfortable spaces for residents.

SteelGuard Steel Fire Rated Windows – Auckland, NZ
– PS1 for a SteelGuard steel fire rated window suite for the Les Mills gym in central Auckland

Spiers & Hartwell Offices – Evesham, UK
– Produced structural design and detailing of a steel framed office building extension to an existing warehouse
– Designed and built clad in structurally insulated panels (SIP)s to improve the overall performance of the structure.

Hanger 4 Extension, Messier Bugatti Dowty – Staverton Airfield, Gloucester, UK
– Created structural design of a steel framed aircraft hangar extension repurposed as a workshop.
– Incorporated an internal 3-ton crane supported by the primary structural frame to improve the integrity of the structure

Danobat foundation design – Gloucester, UK
– Produced the design and detailing of a reinforced concrete foundation for a 65-ton CNC machine lathe.

Four Marks Scout Building – Alton, UK
– Headed structural design and sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) design for a timber-framed scouts building.
– All were designed to meet Passive Haus standards, delivering superior levels of comfort without conventional heating or air.

Alderman Knight School – Tewkesbury, UK
– Created structural design and detailing of a 1000 m2 timber framed school building

Staverton Connection Retail Units – Gloucester, UK
– Formed the civil design of a SUD system for a series of retail units incorporating an attenuation system for limiting stormwater runoff rate and sizing of an attenuation pond

Dorset Villa – Cheltenham, UK
– Created alterations and design for an extension to a listed townhouse in Cheltenham, UK.
– The design of the new extension included a swimming pool and spa adjoined with the original 18th-century structure, resulting in the seamless blend of an updated living space paired with the integrity of the original building.
