The team is growing, so we thought it time to get to know some of the faces behind Oculus!
Meet Robyn Ryan – Intermediate Building Enclosure Engineer
Describe yourself at age 10
Building flying foxes on our farm
What has been the worst job you’ve ever had?
Volunteering to take down tents after a music festival
If you could do another job for just one day what would it be?
An Olympic ski jumper
What new trends are you seeing and what excites you about them?
Prefabrication, modularisation and using less treatment in timber. There are so many ways we can improve in the way we build, these are the ones that I see can have a decent chance of reducing our impact on the environment.
You are surrounded by a talented and dynamic team, how is this helping you develop from a professional point of view?
The Oculus team gives you the space to solve a problem in your own way but with talented back-up support just a phone call away whenever you need it.
Being a female in a traditionally very male dominated industry, how are you seeing this change and what can we expect in the future?
Every now and again I do a head-count in a meeting room and I’m pleasantly surprised. The change is happening really slowly, but it is going in the right direction.
What’s been your favourite project for Oculus and why?
My favourite project was doing the energy modelling for a carbon zero house case-study. It was an awesome project that drilled into which home improvements actually make a difference and which are a waste of time and money.
